The second phase of the Coding Phase officially kicked off the previous week on June 30th, 16:00, marking the conclusion of the First Evaluation period for Google Summer of Code 2017. On the personal front, I would like to state that I progressed successfully through the evaluations by completing the two designated ports for my project ‘Porting UC Wish list to Drupal 8’ , under the able guidance of my mentor, Naveen Valecha . I have also maintained a detailed info for the work done as part of the first phase evaluations in a previous blogpost . The previous week, based on the mentor’s review of the earlier ports done, I had also fixed the coding standards and made some changes to the code, as suggested by him. The fourth week of Google Summer of Code 2017 has come to a close, bringing forth the onset of the First Evaluation Period. The conceptualization developed during the first phase of coding have been of immense help and has provided notable assistance for the completion of the assigned ports. As I had stated in the previous blog posts, this month I had the objective of completing the following ports concerning the first phase of the coding regime: Admin wish list settings Add to wishlist  With the conclusion of week 4, I have completed the port of the administrator wish list settings as well as the ‘ Add to wishlist ’ feature as part of the second port. Also for the ‘ Add to Wishlist ’ functionality to work successfully, my next objective would be to add the functionality to view/access the user wish list, on using the button. With the conclusion of the third week of Google Summer of Code 2017, the initial phase of the coding period is coming to a closure. The conceptualization developed during the previous weeks have been of immense help, and has been of notable assistance for the completion of the ports for the first phase. The previous week, as I had stated in my earlier blogpost , I had to port the following sub-modules regarding the UC Wish list framework: As I had mentioned in the previous blogpost , till week 2 I had almost completed the first port by configuring the administrator wish list settings and completing a substantial portion of managing user wish lists. Google Summer of Code 2017 has entered yet another week and with the conclusion of week 2 of the Coding Phase, things in general have become much more elaborative, as well as exciting ! The previous week was significantly noteworthy in terms of the intricacies and topics dealt with for the  objectives undertaken for the first phase. I was also able to manage time better to focus more towards my project, and the implementation in particular. In the previous blogpost , I had mentioned about the port objectives decided with regard to the first phase of the coding regime. As planned earlier, my main intent for the week was to port the functionality ‘Add administrator wish list settings’. The Coding phase of Google Summer of Code 2017 kicked off the previous week on May 30th, 16:00 UTC, marking the conclusion of the one-month long Community Bonding period. As stated earlier in my previous post , the Community Bonding term proffered the selected students an opportunity to build a rapport with their community, helping them in interacting with the respective mentors and fellow developers. Presently, I am working on porting the UC Wish list module to Drupal 8, under the guidance of Naveen Valecha , which would specifically allow customers to create and administer personalized wish lists of products in their Ubercart store, thereby enabling potential customers to get a better understanding by referring to those wishlists. As mentioned previously, this year I got selected for GSoC under Drupal for the project ‘Porting UC wish list to Drupal 8’ . This blogpost would concisely pivot around the Community Bonding period with Drupal for GSoC’17, thereby focusing on it’s importance and objectives achieved during this phase. This year, the accepted GSoC proposals/projects were announced on April 3, 21:00 IST. The selected students are entitled to participate in the Community Bonding period till May 29th. The Community Bonding period, essentially, is the time for the selected students to socially engage with the fellow developers & learn extensively about their organisation’s functionalities, in other words, have a comprehensive understanding of an organisation’s codebase, codes of conduct, releases etc, rather than jumping straight into coding. This year I had the utmost opportunity of getting selected for the prestigious Google Summer of Code 2017, as a part of Drupal, the open source organisation to which I contribute. Drupal, is a free and open source content-management framework written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License, provides a back-end framework for at least 2.2% of all Web sites worldwide – ranging from personal blogs to corporate, political, and government sites. Systems also use Drupal for knowledge management and for business collaboration. The Google Summer of Code, often abbreviated to GSoC, is an international annual program, first held from May to August 2005, in which Google awards stipends, which depends on place of university of the student, to all students who successfully complete a requested free and open-source software coding project during the summer.
